Smishing

A phishing attack that occurs in the text messaging space often using a spoofed number, which makes the text appear that it is coming from a legitimate source.

Smishing is particularly problematic because people are more inclined to trust a text message than an email or voicemail and are less aware of the security risks surrounding text messages. The goal is to trick recipients into revealing personal information, such as passwords or credit card numbers.
