ALPS Insurance ChatGPT App Privacy Notice
This Privacy Notice describes how ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company, together with its affiliates as applicable (“ALPS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information in connection with the ALPS Insurance ChatGPT App (the “App”).
This Notice applies specifically to information processed through the App made available through ChatGPT or related OpenAI-powered interfaces. It supplements our general Privacy & Information Security Policy available at: https://www.alpsinsurance.com/privacy-security.
1. What the App Does
The App helps users generate a non-binding estimated premium range for ALPS Lawyers Professional Liability coverage based on information the user provides. The App may also provide explanatory output, assumptions, or next-step links, including the option to continue to an ALPS application or related web experience.
The App provides estimated price range information only. It does not provide an insurance quote, binder, or guarantee of eligibility, coverage, or pricing.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how the App is used, we may collect the following categories of information:
A. Information you provide through the App
We may collect information you submit in prompts, tool fields, or other App inputs, including:
- State: a two-letter U.S. state abbreviation or full state name for the firm;
- Primary practice area: the firm’s primary area of law (e.g., Criminal, Domestic Relations);
- Attorney count: the total number of attorneys in the firm (between 1 and 1000).
These inputs correspond directly to the fields used by the App’s calculation tool and are required to generate an estimated premium range.
B. Information generated by the App
Based on the information you provide, the App generates and returns:
- A non-binding estimated premium range, including:
- Estimated low premium value;
- Estimated high premium value;
- A summary of the estimate and explanatory text;
- Coverage-related guidance, which may include:
- Coverage hints;
- Deductible guidance;
- Limit guidance;
- Recommended coverages, which may include:
- Coverage type;
- Description;
- Links to learn more (URLs);
- Example scenarios illustrating how inputs may affect pricing;
- System messages, hints, or error messages to guide usage.
The App may also generate internal response data and system outputs necessary to deliver results, support performance, and maintain reliability.
C. Usage and technical information
When the App is used, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical and usage information, such as:
- date and time of use,
- IP address or approximate location derived from IP address,
- browser type, operating system, device information, and similar technical identifiers,
- referral source,
- campaign or attribution parameters (such as
utm_source,utm_medium,utm_campaign), - interaction logs, performance metrics, and error logs,
- and security or abuse-prevention logs.
D. Information if you choose to continue to Apply
If you click Apply or otherwise continue from the App to an ALPS web page, application flow, or contact form, we may include certain information from your App session or calculator selections, along with attribution or campaign parameters, in the destination experience or URL so that we can understand how the App is used and support analytics, attribution, and business operations.
3. How We Use Information
We may use information collected through the App for the following purposes:
- to operate the App and generate estimated premium ranges;
- to return outputs, explanations, assumptions, and next-step guidance;
- to authenticate, secure, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain the App and related systems;
- to detect, prevent, investigate, and address fraud, abuse, misuse, or other harmful or unauthorized activity;
- to measure App usage, adoption, performance, and effectiveness;
- to improve the App, our website experiences, and related products and services;
- to support attribution, analytics, and marketing measurement;
- to facilitate a transition to an ALPS application or contact workflow if you choose to continue;
- to comply with legal, regulatory, contractual, recordkeeping, and enforcement obligations.
4. Who We Share Information With
We do not sell personal information collected through the App for money. We may share or disclose information collected through the App as follows:
A. Within ALPS
We may share information with ALPS personnel, business units, and affiliated entities that need the information for business, operational, analytics, compliance, customer service, underwriting, or security purposes.
B. Service providers and processors
We may share information with vendors and service providers that support the App and our business operations, such as providers of:
- cloud hosting and infrastructure,
- website hosting,
- analytics,
- logging and monitoring,
- security and fraud prevention,
- customer support,
- data storage,
- and communications or marketing support.
These providers may process information on our behalf and under contractual restrictions.
C. OpenAI and ChatGPT platform context
If you use the App within ChatGPT or another OpenAI-powered interface, your interaction with that environment is also subject to OpenAI’s terms, policies, and data handling practices applicable to the user’s ChatGPT or OpenAI service context. We encourage you to review OpenAI’s applicable privacy disclosures and data controls. OpenAI’s app ecosystem is built around transparency and user trust, and app reviewers specifically assess whether privacy disclosures are complete and current.
D. Business transfers, legal requirements, and protection
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to:
- protect our rights, property, or safety,
- protect users, customers, or others,
- detect or investigate fraud or misuse,
- enforce our terms or other agreements.
5. Retention
We retain information collected through the App for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Notice, including to operate the App, maintain security, troubleshoot issues, perform analytics, comply with legal or regulatory obligations, and resolve disputes.
Without limiting the foregoing:
- App input and output logs may be retained for 12 months;
- security, abuse-prevention, and diagnostic logs may be retained for 12 months;
- analytics and attribution data may be retained in accordance with our analytics and marketing systems’ retention settings, which may vary by platform;
- and information associated with an application, quote, customer service inquiry, or legal/regulatory requirement may be retained for a longer period as required or permitted by law and our recordkeeping practices.
6. Your Choices and Controls
You have choices about how you use the App and related experiences:
- Do not use the App: You may choose not to submit information through the App.
- Do not continue to Apply: You may choose not to click Apply or continue to any linked ALPS experience.
- Cookie / analytics preferences: Where available, you may manage cookie or analytics preferences through our website tools or browser settings.
- Access, correction, and deletion requests: Depending on applicable law and the nature of the information, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information.
- Marketing choices: You may opt out of certain marketing communications using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us.
If you use the App through ChatGPT or another OpenAI service, you may also have privacy and data control options available through your OpenAI or ChatGPT account settings, subject to OpenAI’s policies. OpenAI provides user-facing controls around data usage and related settings in certain service contexts.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information processed through the App. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Do not submit unnecessary sensitive information through the App. Please do not include sensitive information unless specifically requested through a secure ALPS application process and necessary for that process.
8. Third-Party Services and Links
The App or its outputs may include links to additional ALPS pages or third-party services. Their privacy practices may differ from ours, and we encourage you to review applicable privacy notices before providing information.
9. Changes to This Notice
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective indicates your acceptance of the updated Notice, to the extent permitted by law.
