ALPS Insurance ChatGPT Plugin Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes how ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company and its affiliates ("ALPS," "we," "our," or "us") collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information in connection with the ALPS Insurance ChatGPT Plugin (the "Plugin").

This Notice applies specifically to the Plugin available through ChatGPT and OpenAI's plugin ecosystem. It supplements our general Privacy & Information Security Policy.

1. What the Plugin Does

The Plugin provides a non-binding estimated annual premium range for ALPS Lawyers Professional Liability coverage.

To generate an estimate, the Plugin uses information provided by the user regarding:

  • State
  • Primary practice area
  • Attorney count

The Plugin may also provide explanatory information, coverage guidance, recommended coverages, example scenarios, and links to additional ALPS resources.

The Plugin does not provide an insurance quote, insurance binder, coverage determination, or guarantee of eligibility, pricing, or coverage.


2. Information Collected Through the Plugin

A. Information Provided by the User

The Plugin collects the following user-provided information:

Attorney Count Total number of attorneys in the firm

These inputs are required for the Plugin to generate an estimated premium range.

B. Information Generated by the Plugin

Based on the information provided by the user, the Plugin may generate:

  • Estimated premium ranges
  • Coverage recommendations
  • Coverage descriptions
  • Deductible guidance
  • Coverage limit guidance
  • Learn-more links
  • Example scenarios
  • Summary explanations
  • Error messages and usage guidance

C. Technical and Usage Information

When the Plugin is used, ALPS and its service providers may collect technical and usage information, including:

  • Date and time of use
  • IP address or approximate geographic location derived from IP address
  • Browser type and operating system
  • Device information
  • Referral source
  • Attribution and campaign parameters (including parameters used to identify Plugin-originated visits to ALPS websites)
  • Link interaction information, including which Plugin-provided links users choose to follow
  • Performance metrics
  • Diagnostic information
  • Security and abuse-prevention logs

D. Information Transmitted When You Follow Links from the Plugin

If you choose to follow links provided by the Plugin, including Apply, Learn More, coverage information, educational resources, or other ALPS website links, ALPS may receive attribution and campaign information associated with the Plugin interaction.

This information may include campaign identifiers, referral information, and similar analytics parameters that help ALPS understand how users discover and engage with the Plugin and related ALPS web content.

ALPS uses this information for analytics, attribution, Plugin performance measurement, and improvement of user experiences.

The Plugin does not transmit calculator inputs such as state, practice area, or attorney count when a user follows a link from the Plugin.

4. Who Receives Information

A. ALPS

Information may be accessed by authorized ALPS personnel and affiliated entities for operational, customer service, analytics, compliance, underwriting, security, and business purposes.

B. Service Providers

ALPS may share information with vendors and service providers that support:

  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Website hosting
  • Analytics
  • Logging and monitoring
  • Security services
  • Fraud prevention
  • Customer support
  • Data storage
  • Communications systems

These providers process information on behalf of ALPS and are subject to contractual obligations regarding the protection of information.

C. OpenAI and ChatGPT Platform Processing

Because the Plugin operates within ChatGPT, information submitted to the Plugin is transmitted through and processed by OpenAI's platform in order to enable the Plugin's functionality.

OpenAI's collection, use, retention, and disclosure of information are governed by OpenAI's own terms, policies, and privacy notices applicable to the user's OpenAI or ChatGPT account and service environment.

D. Legal and Business Transfers

ALPS may disclose information:

  • To comply with applicable law
  • To respond to legal process or governmental requests
  • To protect rights, property, safety, or security
  • To investigate fraud, misuse, or unauthorized activity
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets

5. Retention

ALPS retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Notice.

  • Manage cookie and analytics preferences where available
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information where applicable law provides such rights
  • Opt out of certain marketing communications

Users may also have privacy and data-control options available through their OpenAI or ChatGPT account settings, subject to OpenAI's policies.


7. Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect

The Plugin is designed to generate premium estimates using only state, practice area, and attorney count information.

Users should not submit sensitive personal information through the Plugin, including:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Government identification numbers
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information
  • Health information
  • Biometric information
  • Any other information not necessary to generate an estimate

8. Security

ALPS uses administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information processed through the Plugin.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and ALPS cannot guarantee absolute security.


9. Third-Party Links

The Plugin may include links to ALPS websites or third-party resources. Those services operate under their own privacy notices and practices, and ALPS encourages users to review those notices before providing information.


10. Changes to This Notice

ALPS may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. Updated versions will be posted at this location and become effective upon posting unless otherwise stated.
