Course Description:
Law firms of all shapes and sizes — from solo general practitioners to large litigation firms — often expose themselves to malpractice due to inefficient calendaring management. For example, a firm of fourteen attorneys may have fourteen individualized calendaring systems, increasing the risk of calendaring errors. To the detriment of clients and firms, calendar failures are common, and clients are intolerant of such mistakes. This program demonstrates how easy it is to avoid some of the ways that calendaring missteps occur through the use of a well-designed calendaring and docket control process. While there is no one right way to accomplish the task, the key will be thoughtful planning, thorough training, and everyone in the office's commitment to follow through.
Learning Objectives:
-
Analyze the importance of independent redundancies in the calendaring process.
-
Understand calendaring best practices, including file review dates, reminder use, and calendaring guidelines.
-
Identify the fallout of poor calendaring practices.
-
Identify ways technology can be used to create additional calendaring efficiencies and reduce the risk of a malpractice claim.
